Continental Tire's Hefei plant, a wholly foreign-owned production base and the first of its kind in China for the German Continental Group, has carried out four phases of expansion in the zone since its launch, with cumulative investment exceeding 1 billion euros (US$1.17 billion). Upon reaching full capacity in 2027, the facility is expected to produce nearly 18 million tires for passenger vehicles and light trucks annually. Edscha, another German auto‑parts maker, has been operating its automotive component company in the zone for over 20 years. The facility has grown into one of Gestamp Group's larger and more stable production bases in the Asia‑Pacific region, specializing in manufacturing automotive door hinges and other components. According to a company representative, driven by rapid business growth, the firm is making progress on a new project in the zone, which is expected to generate an annual output worth about 1.96 billion yuan (US$280.93 million) at full capacity.
