Shanzhou silo-cave is 11 kilometers from Sanmenxia city, located in North-ying villiage, Zhangbian town, Shanzhou district, Sanmenxia city, Henan province, covers an area of 23 square kilometers. As an ancient and mysterious style of folk houses, the underground courtyard contains rich culture. It is the only underground ancient folk houses in China and even the world. It is also one of the four unique ancient folk houses in China, known as"the ancient village under the horizon, the living fossil of human cave dwelling". In 2011, the construction techniques of underground pits were included in the national intangible cultural heritage protection list.
Shanzhou silo-cave is a special tourist project elaborately built by the government of Shannzhou district, Sanmenxia city. With scientific protection and reasonable development, the scenic spot will open up 21 underground caves to each other on the basis of the original underground caves with differently internal themes, showing the historical evolution of underground caves and the life style and folk arts of people in Shanzhou. At the same time, the scenic spot also retains many undeveloped underground pits and courtyards for tourists to visit, searching for lost underground ancient villages along the loess of the Shanyuan, so that the traditional culture of the pits and courtyards can be passed down to a long time.
